All this leads me to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the motherboard itself so I have updated the BIOS to the latest version that is but it still didnt help. All I get no matter what I do is a blinking cursor. Once you were booted, you could plug it in and it worked fine. I tried everything to fix this new issue, but nothing. Nothing appears in windows as a new HW nothing works. I completely missed “the floppy light always gets stuck on” in the first post.

I think it’s a BIOS problem but every time I try to update it the website is down one time it wasn’t asuz the zip was corrupted. I keep getting errors like after start before booting it says no HDD present however the HDD is there and if i turn it off and leave it for cca 1 min and start again it works perfect.

Didn’t do a thing. Machine boots with scanner plugged in. Extending number of USB ports possible?
Choosing either has the same effect – blinking cursor on black background. I wonder if you’ve connected the ribbon to the floppy the wrong way round?

Assus Wiffles, of course there isn’t, they all work the other way. And I can’t say for sure if it works for installing XP – I thought the boot crud installed to the first drive, but Windows won’t install properly if it ends up on the USB stick. In fact, it’s gone back to the blinking cursor and clearing CMOS hasn’t changed it to the error message again.
